Take Another Look – DAY 5

CONFIRMATION
BY JOHN McMARTIN

I am sure we’ve all had ‘Gideon moments’. Those times when we have heard the voice of the Lord instructing us regarding a specific task; yet despite hearing His voice, we felt hesitant and uncertain.

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”’ (Judges 6:12)

When the Lord commissioned Gideon with the job of saving Israel from the Midianites, he responded with so many questions. Gideon’s words revealed that he was unsure of himself and lacked confidence in his own ability. He even went as far as making excuses on why and how he didn’t qualify. Eventually he asked for a sign from God as confirmation.

Read through Judges chapter 6 and you will see that for every step Gideon took forward, he needed a sign from God. He even tested the Lord with a fleece. Yet every sign added faith and courage that the Lord was with him. With this, Gideon was able to proceed with the task of overcoming an oppressive enemy.

The fact is, Gideon’s fears were real. The Midianites were a formidable opponent and just before the battle, fear gripped Gideon again. The Lord prompted him to go down to the outskirts of the enemy’s camp with his servant. This is where Gideon received his final encouragement. He heard two men talking about a dream and interpreted that Gideon was going to defeat them because ‘God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.’ (Judges 7:14)

Overhearing this conversation put fear into the heart of his enemies, and replaced the fear in Gideon’s heart with faith and courage.

If God is laying something on your heart and is asking you to do something bigger than you think you can do, be assured that He will confirm His word. He is not the author of confusion. He will tell you what you need to know and lead you towards victory and success.

How He confirms His word to you could involve using different means and people, yet He will ensure that you are built up with faith and courage to move forward to put your confidence in Him.

TODAY: TAKE ANOTHER LOOK… at where your faith and confidence lies.
