When people in the community look at the local church, what do they see? Are they thinking, ‘What do they do to help people?’ or ‘What do they do all day?’ Some would think we have church services and sing hymns all the time. We all have the responsibility to communicate clearly and exactly what we do to help people.
Everything we do in church is for the community. People who attend church are part of the broader community – we don’t live in planet church – we live in a suburb near church. We are the community.
Making sense of what we actually do for people, in a language that the community understands, is our responsibility. Don’t put a bucket over your church, but help your community understand what you really do. Let’s become better communicators about what church is really all about.
